Mother faces 2 drunk driving offenses within 24 hours

As the number of DUI convictions rises on a person's record, the punishment becomes more drastic. When one is arrested for drunk driving with a minor passenger in the vehicle, the potential punishment similarly increases. This could become a problem for a 36-year-old mother who was arrested twice in New Hampshire within 24 hours for DWI. On the second arrest, she allegedly had her infant daughter in the vehicle.

The first arrest occurred at about 6 p.m. on Aug. 12 when she was arrested by Exeter police on suspicion of driving under the influence of drugs. She was released on $1,000 personal recognizance bond. There are no further details available on the circumstances of that arrest.

The second arrest occurred the next day in Plaistow where police reported that they pulled the woman over for erratic driving at about 9 p.m. In that stop, the woman had her 4-month-old daughter in the vehicle, police say. Plaistow police charged her with DWI, aggravated DWI and endangering the welfare of a child. The aggravated DWI charge was due to the child being in the vehicle, police reported.

She was released on $2,000 personal recognizance bond on the Plaistow charges. Mitigating circumstances in the woman's life indicate she may be a victim of domestic abuse. The Kingston Police reported that the woman's male friend is facing charges there for domestic violence simple assault against her involving an incident when the two were in the man's stopped truck near Kingston State Park.

With the series of events indicating a volatile time in the woman's life, it is even more important that she obtain experienced criminal defense counsel to steer her through the potential serious punishment that she faces. There may be the potential to reduce and negotiate several of the charges away or to agree on reduced offenses.  However, counsel who is experienced in New Hampshire drunk driving and criminal law will give the accused a better chance of success in those legal hurdles.
