Salem, New Hampshire, man faces drunk driving charges

A possible drunk driving crash investigation could mean serious, life-changing DUI charges for a Salem, New Hampshire, resident. The accident occurred just after 2 a.m. on Easter Sunday on Interstate 93 near the intersection of I-93 and I-293, according to police reports. The police claim the 26-year-old man was drunk when he crashed into another vehicle on I-93. The crash caused injuries to both the driver and the passenger of the other car.

Reports allege that the 26-year-old passed two state troopers near the intersection, and the troopers gave pursuit. While they were attempting to catch the driver, the troopers say he lost control of his car and veered into the southbound lane of I-93 before colliding with the other automobile. Police reports also allege the passenger in the other car was ejected from the vehicle during the collision and had to be transported to a local hospital along with the driver.

Reportedly, the New Hampshire State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Unit responded to the scene to handle the accident investigation, and police officers claim that alcohol and speed contributed to the collision. The 26-year-old driver has been charged with felony DWI as the accident investigation continues.

Driving while intoxicated is never good, even for the person accused of drunk driving. In addition to potentially losing the freedom Americans hold dear, a person convicted of drunk driving charges could face costly fines, loss of driving privileges and other penalties. Because of the seriousness of drunk driving charges, it's more important than ever to have a legal professional review all aspects of the case from the initial police chase to the resulting accident to make certain any arrest made occurred within the constraints of the law.
