Meredith man arrested for selling fatal dose of heroin

Drug-related crimes are not taken lightly in the Granite State. Those who are convicted of these offenses face serious penalties, including steep fines and jail time. Fortunately, there are experienced New Hampshire criminal lawyers who can help defendants argue their case in court and secure a fair outcome.

According to regional media publication the Union Leader, law enforcement officials arrested 50-year-old Meredith resident Andrew Currier on Tuesday, August 20, for his role in the May death of 31-year-old Jason Dostie. The news outlet states that Currier allegedly sold heroin to Dostie, who later overdosed and died.

Currier's arraignment has been scheduled for September 19. If convicted, the 50-year-old could be sentenced to life in prison, which is the maximum penalty for selling a fatal dose of heroin.

"The significance of this law is that it is a strict liability statute for drug dealers," Belknap County Attorney Melissa Guldbrandsen told the source. "It serves a dual purpose of holding drug dealers responsible for their conduct, and it serves as a deterrent to other drug dealers by telling them they could go to jail for life if one of their buyers dies."

If you reside in the Granite State and you've been accused of a drug-related crime, you may feel like the whole justice system is against you. With this in mind, it's essential not to settle for mediocre legal representation. You owe it to yourself to consult with an experienced New Hampshire lawyer. These knowledgeable professionals can review your case and tirelessly defend you in a court of law.
