Deerfield man charged with selling fatal dose of heroin

If you're accused of a drug-related crime in the Granite State, you could face harsh penalties under current legislation. This is exactly why it's imperative to consult a New Hampshire lawyer, as these professionals can do everything in their power to ensure that all legal avenues are explored throughout the entirety of the process.

According to New Hampshire news outlet the Union Leader, 31-year-old Deerfield resident Joshua Leighton was arraigned on the morning of July 26 for allegedly supplying 29-year-old James O'Rourke with a fatal does of heroin. Though law enforcement officials have said that the death was likely unintentional, Leighton has been "charged with sale of a controlled drug with a death resulting, which [...] is a special felony that carries a maximum sentence of life in prison," notes the media publication.

"We are not sure if [O'Rourke] overdosed or just had a bad reaction," Deerfield Police Chief Michael Greeley told the source. "But I feel we have a strong case, otherwise we wouldn't have turned it over to the prosecutor."

As of July 26, Leighton was reportedly being held at Rockingham County jail on $100,000 bail. His probable cause hearing is scheduled for August 1.

If you've been accused of a drug-related crime in the Granite State, you may feel like the whole justice system is against you. With this in mind, it's essential not to settle for mediocre legal representation. You owe it to yourself to consult with an experienced New Hampshire lawyer.
