Portsmouth man charged with first-degree assault turns down prosecutors' plea offer

When you're charged with a crime, it can feel like the whole justice system is against you. If this is the case, it is in your best interest to enlist the services of a New Hampshire lawyer to advocate on your behalf and ensure that you receive a fair trial.

A 25-year-old Portsmouth, New Hampshire, man refused to agree to a plea offer presented by prosecutors after being charged with first- and second-degree assault, reports local media outlet the Union Leader. According to the source, Josiah Mayo allegedly fractured a man's skull during a physical altercation that took place outside of Page Restaurant in Portsmouth on July 15, 2012. Zachary Green, the individual injured during the confrontation, was taken to Portsmouth Regional Hospital where he was treated for his injury.

The news outlet states that prosecutors attempted to get Mayo to agree to a 3.5- to 7-year prison sentence, but the 25-year-old declined the offer, refusing to plead guilty. Now, he is scheduled to return to Rockingham County Superior Court on September 30, 2013, to go on trial. If convicted, he faces 7.5 to 15 years behind bars for the first-degree assault charge.

If you've been accused of a crime in the Granite State, it's essential not to settle for anything less than the best attorneys available. You owe it to yourself to consult with an experienced New Hampshire lawyer. These knowledgeable professionals can review your case and defend you in a court of law, standing steadfastly by your side throughout the entirety of the legal process.
