North Hampton woman receives 12-month suspended sentence for stealing from elderly couple

A Hampton, New Hampshire, woman who was accused of taking advantage of an elderly couple recently pleaded guilty to charges of forgery and receiving stolen property. According to regional news outlet the Union Leader, 37-year-old Valerie Trunfio committed these crimes while working as a nurse's aide at Exeter Hospital.

The defendant had been caring for an elderly couple in North Hampton when she reportedly cashed checks that she had written to herself totaling $2,000, in addition to the money that the patients were already paying her. Trunfio told law enforcement officials that she had been given permission to do this, but the victims said otherwise. The former nurse's aide also took an oxygen monitor from the hospital where she was employed and left it at the elderly couple's home, says the source.

Trunfio received a 12-month suspended jail sentence for her crimes, meaning she will not have to serve time behind bars as long as she stays out of legal trouble for the next two years. She has also been ordered to pay restitution to her victims and write them a letter of apology, as well as perform 100 hours of community service.
