Man arrested in Nashua following standoff with police officers

On February 14, a Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (MBTA) cop was arrested in Nashua, New Hampshire, after a confrontation with police officers during which he fired a gun and threatened to kill law enforcement officials who were attempting to take him into custody.

According to 7News, Gary McKeon of Billerica, Massachusetts - a 21-year MBTA employee who was publicly commended twice for his police work over the years - has been on administrative leave since December 2012 after being arrested on a domestic abuse charge.

The February 14 incident occurred inside a Renaissance Motel room where McKeon engaged in a seven-hour standoff with the police. After being alerted by the suspect's family and friends that he was suicidal, police showed up to the motel to check on him. McKeon, who was drunk at the time, allegedly fired a gun four times and pointed the weapon at Nashua Police Department's Special Reaction Team.

"During police interaction with Mr. McKeon, there was a point in which he was observed to be pointing a firearm in the direction of officers and he also made verbal threats to them," said Detective LR. Michael Moushegian of the Nashua Police Department.

Fortunately, no one - including the suspect - was injured during the incident. Officers were eventually able to get McKeon into custody. He currently faces four counts of reckless conduct and one count of making a criminal threat.
