Young man injured in rollover crash on Route 102

On Wednesday night, a 19-year-old man was severely injured in an accident on Route 102 when the Hyundai sedan he was driving clipped the rear of an SUV, causing it to flip over. The man, whose name was not released by authorities, suffered injuries to his spinal cord and head in the accident.

According to police statements, the collision occurred just after 5 p.m. The 19-year-old's Elantra impacted the right rear corner of a Ford Expedition traveling in front of it. The Elantra rolled over at least once, and it appeared from photographs at the scene to have come to rest upright.

However, the roof of the vehicle was crushed in the process, so emergency crews were forced to employ the Jaws of Life in order to free the teenager from the wreck. The Eagle-Tribune reported that it took 13 minutes for responders to cut away the roof and door.

The 19-year-old was then transported by ambulance to Parkland Medical Center in Derry, New Hampshire, for treatment, but his injuries were so severe that shortly afterward he was taken by DHART helicopter to a hospital in Boston. He was the only occupant of the Hyundai.

The Ford received little damage in the crash, but a 3-year-old who was a passenger was also taken to the hospital to be monitored by medical staff. His parents, who were also in the SUV, were not hurt.

No updates on the teenager's condition have been released since the collision.
