Man hit by van in Hampstead suffers serious injuries

During the evening commute in Hampstead, New Hampshire, on Monday, Kevin Coady was crossing Central Street when he was hit by a van. The 20-year-old East Hampstead resident had to be flown by MedEvac helicopter to Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston due to the severity of his injuries.

The accident occurred just after 5:30 p.m. near the intersection between Central and Moulton Drive, according to police.

Initial reports conflicted as to whether Coady was walking or riding a push-operated scooter when he was struck. However, newspapers indicated that the victim was wearing all dark clothing, including black jeans, black sneakers and a black coat.

Coady suffered a traumatic head injury in addition to several wounds to his arms and unknown parts of his body.

The driver was identified as Christina Soucy, a 34-year-old resident of Plaistow and the owner of the 1999 Chrysler minivan that struck Coady. She was not injured in the collision. As of Wednesday, Soucy had not been charged in relation to the incident.

No updates on Coady's condition have been released, nor have authorities suggested whether they believe he will survive his injuries.

Hampstead police lieutenant John Frazier told the Eagle-Tribune that officials did not believe speed or alcohol were factors in the accident, but added that an investigation would be conducted with the help of the Derry police's technical accident reconstruction team.
