Car accidents on I-93 leave at least 1 dead after rear-end crash

The tragic taking of life on New Hampshire highways continues at a pace that is unnerving to most safe drivers in the state. The horror of lives lost when there is no good reason is difficult to shake off for many people. Car accidents resulting in injuries and fatalities are almost always events that could have been avoided by safe, focused driving by one or more motorists.

In a recent tragic accident on Interstate 93, a pickup truck driver was the only motorist conceivably at fault, if the reported facts are found to be accurate. Preliminarily, the reported facts are supported by published photos, one of which shows the entire front end of the pickup massively destroyed in what appears to have been a high-speed collision. The driver did not slow down for backed-up traffic at the Interstate 293 interchange, according to the New Hampshire State Police.

To exacerbate matters, he was reportedly traveling at full speed when he plowed into several vehicles that were inching along in slow traffic. The at-fault driver hit one car that began to roll over and off of the highway, coming to rest on its side, according to the NHSP. The 62-year-old female driving that car was declared dead at the scene. In a typical secondary result, another accident occurred in the same vicinity, in the right lanes of the interstate, due to inattention.

The authorities indicated that impairment did not appear to be a factor, which generally makes distraction a possible prime candidate for an accident of this kind. A rear-end collision at a fast speed is virtually always the result of negligence, and perhaps gross negligence, when it comes to highway driving. The laws of New Hampshire and all other states prohibit driving without keeping a careful eye on the road ahead. A driver must be going slowly enough to be able to stop within an assured clear distance ahead, and car accidents caused by a violation of that basic principle will be the fault of the drivers who were going too fast to stop so as to avoid collisions.
