Woman awaits court hearing after arrest for drunk driving

When a New Hampshire driver is charged with DWI -- driving while intoxicated -- the impact on his or her life can be severe. Even before a drunk driving conviction, the effects of the charges on the accused person's personal and professional life may be significant. A Londonderry woman and a relative were fortunate to survive a recent car accident that led to her arrest on suspicion of being impaired.

A Bedford police report indicates that a 56-year-old driver was northbound on a local road on a recent Tuesday evening when she failed to negotiate a curve and drove off the roadway. When officers arrived at the scene, they determined that the car had traveled across the road before entering the woods, where it struck a stone culvert and rolled over. The vehicle was on its roof when it came to a halt.

Reportedly, both occupants of the car were trapped and had to be extricated by rescue workers. They were taken to a regional hospital for treatment of injuries said to be non-life threatening. Law enforcement officers apparently recovered multiple empty alcohol containers at the accident scene, and it is alleged that those containers were empty before the accident.

The driver was subsequently arrested on charges of drunk driving, and she is awaiting a court hearing. Her best course of action may be to retain the services of an experienced New Hampshire DWI defense attorney to advocate on her behalf, something she may well have already accomplished. A conviction can lead to substantial fines, suspended driving privileges and more, depending on the circumstances of the case. However, no conviction can be obtained until -- and only if -- the prosecution has proved guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.
