Defense for overlooked traffic violations in New Hampshire

Whenever the police pull you over in New Hampshire, the officer is going to come up to your window and start off by asking if you know what you did wrong. In many cases, you may know exactly why you were pulled over, but have you ever been honestly perplexed? Have you felt unsure what you did wrong and been unable to answer the question?

The issue could be that you broke a minor traffic law that is usually overlooked. For example, in some places, it is illegal to turn right on a red light, despite this being legal at the majority of intersections. While these lights are typically marked, you may never even think to look for a sign, assuming that the rules of the road apply as they always have.

Other issues include merging or turning without using a turn signal soon enough, not coming to a complete stop at a stop sign—this is known as a rolling stop—or accidentally driving too fast for conditions. These are all things that could result in your being pulled over, but you may not know what you did wrong, and you may be as confused as ever when the officer gets to your window.

Despite this, being pulled over for these violations can still lead to serious ramifications, including fines and a potential court date, in some cases. If you have been pulled over and ticketed or told that you have to go to court, you must know what legal rights you have and what steps can be taken to craft a defense.
