Drunken passenger charged with assault of driver in Merrimack

A Nashua woman was arrested and charged with criminal mischief and several counts of assault following an incident that occurred Sunday evening. Elisheva Galan was riding as a passenger in a car driven by an unidentified male around 6 p.m. on December 2 in Merrimack, New Hampshire.

According to news reports, the pair had gotten lost in the city and pulled over to a gas station on Continental Boulevard. Once the car was stopped, Galan allegedly hit the man several times, as well as kicked the windshield of the vehicle hard enough to crack it.

Galan then fled the vehicle on foot. The driver called police to the station and upon arrival, authorities embarked on a search for the 29-year-old woman. Shortly thereafter, they located Galan hiding behind a Papa Gino's pizzeria.

Officers said that the driver reported that Galan was drunk at the time of the altercation. Though his eyeglasses were broken and he was punched several times in the face, the man was not seriously injured. The driver also said that the 29-year-old attempted to prevent him from reporting the crime by putting her hand into his mouth as he dialed 911.

Galan was arrested and charged with three counts of simple assault, one count of obstructing the report of a crime and two counts of criminal mischief. She was released on $3,500 personal recognizance bail and was expected back in court on December 4.
