If you believe you are right, you need to stand up for yourself. Do not assume anything. Ask questions. Ensure all of the facts are presented.
Recently a client asked us to represent him at a probable cause hearing. The police had asked the Court that documents relating to the matter, be sealed. In Court, we requested that the documenst become unsealed so that we could properly defend our client's rights.
The unsealed affidavits revealed testimony from witnesses which made it clear that our client was provoked by others. He was not assaulting anyone; he was the one being assaulted. His actions were in self-defense.
As all of the facts came out during the Hearing, the Judge dismissed the charges.
As Americans, we all have rights. Be sure you stand up for them.
